Malibu Beach Inn has been recognized by the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) with their sought-after GBAC STAR, and it’s a badge our luxury hotel is honored to wear. More than simply a certificate of accreditation, it’s an ongoing promise that we’ll continue to go above and beyond to keep our guests and staff safe, healthy, and at peace.

The GBAC STAR is awarded to facilities who meet the highest standards in their disease prevention programs, which includes risk management, proper cleaning protocols, and knowledgeable disinfection team members trained for every situation. Here at Malibu Beach Inn, the cornerstone of our disinfection strategy is a futuristic device called the Protexus Cordless Electrostatic Sprayer, an impressive sanitization tool that uses the power of electrostatic attraction to revolutionize the cleaning process.

With a many-months-long waiting list, Malibu Beach Inn was one of the very first in line for this innovative technology, making us one of the only hotels in the world able to leverage this tool for a new level of safety that goes well beyond the highest CDC standards.

Protexus Electrostatic Sprayers are used with PURTABS Disinfecting Tablets, a safe-when-dry, bleach-free disinfectant that meets the EPA’s criteria for protecting against COVID-19, as well as other bacteria, viruses, and microbes. But it’s not just the cleaning product itself that sets this device apart — it’s also the mechanism it uses.

The Protexus Sprayer works by using an electrostatic charge that allows the cleaning droplets to attract to any surface. (Parent company EvaClean offers this as an example: If you have a pet whose hair seems to attach itself to your clothing on your way out the door, you’ve experienced this electrostatic effect for yourself.) By comparison, cleaning droplets from a regular mister usually just float in the air, while the electrostatic spray actually clings to the surface you direct it at and wraps around objects for 360-degree sanitization.

To put that in perspective, consider this: It reaches up to three times as many surfaces in the same amount of time it takes to clean with traditional tools and products.

Our trained team members use this handheld device in every room between guests after it’s been thoroughly disinfected by our cleaning staff. It’s efficient, effective, quiet, and it requires no touch — so the moment you step into your room, from the drapery pull rods to the remote to the faucet, you’ll know everything has been thoroughly sanitized and then left alone until your arrival. It’s also used in other high-touch areas throughout our hotel’s public spaces, including door handles, hand rails, and elevator lifts.

In addition to this highly coveted technology, we’ve also aligned ourselves with Leading Hotels’ Healthy Stays Commitment, which was developed in collaboration with Dr. Michael Kotler of RemoteMD, Dr. Alan Neuman of ProHealth Environmental, and John Kosmeh Ph.D., a FEMA Emergency Response Trainer. This commitment lays out hotel initiatives to drastically reduce the potential for virus exposure and spread, including procedures on communication and training plans.

Here at Malibu Beach Inn, guests and staff will find hand-sanitizing stations throughout the property on every floor, in both front-of-house and back-of-house areas. In addition, our guests have complimentary access to the Telehealth app, provided by Malibu Beach Inn partner CURE Spa. Through this app, guests can connect with a physician if they’re feeling unwell, and tests for COVID-19 and its antibodies can be arranged.

From our use of sought-after Protexus Electrostatic Sprayers to our Healthy Stays Commitment, we see all of these measures not only as an important step to keeping guests and staff safe during these times, but also as a way to keep improving our already advanced health and safety practices (even beyond COVID-19).
